VALUE DIFFUSION AND THE “DARK SIDE OF THE MOON”

The Future of the AI Economy Through the Prism of Intellectual Partnership

Expert Analysis by Diana Yevsieieva

The  Bright Side: Technological  Inevitability

The world is moving inexorably forward, and technological progress cannot be halted. Artificial Intelligence today is not merely a trend; it is the foundation upon which the world operates.

We are witnessing how one of humanity’s greatest inventions is becoming a baseline requirement for global development, offering solutions ranging from accelerating medical research to the hyper-personalisation of media.

This is our shared future, and it has already arrived. We recognise AI as a colossal lever for the human mind.

The “Dark Side of the Moon”: The Mechanics of Institutional Extraction

However, remaining in the position of impartial observers, we are compelled to document other processes as well.

Current legal disputes from the landmark The New York Times vs. OpenAI case to the claims by artists against Stability AI highlight a fundamental risk: the emergence of a model of “institutional extraction”. Here, professional expertise is effectively transformed into a free resource for training algorithms.

The logic of this process echoes historical models of colonialism: resources (intellectual data) are extracted from a wide environment of creators and concentrated in the hands of technological “metropolises” to generate surplus profit.

As I previously noted in my critique of Meta’s “engagement at all costs” liability, this creates the threat of an “intellectual drought”. Without the nourishment of live human input, systems will inevitably face data degradation, the phenomenon known as Model Collapse.

Five  “Tomorrow” Scenarios

Scenario A: Exclusive Ecosystems.

High-quality expertise retreats behind the “walled gardens” of premium platforms. Access to live human intelligence becomes an elite product.

Scenario B: The Battle for “Clean Data.

” Archives created before the era of mass AI (pre-2023) are recognised as a strategic resource and the “gold standard” for training.

Scenario C: Automated Licensing.

The implementation of smart contracts allows for automatic royalty payments to authors the moment their insight is utilised by an algorithm.

Scenario D: The British “Gold Standard.”

The UK introduces the status of “Intellectual Sovereignty,” creating transparent rules of engagement for global investors.

Scenario E: The Reputational Return.

Brands begin to officially label content with a “Created by Human” mark, utilising standards like the C2PA (Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity) as a symbol of superior quality in a world of excessive synthetic noise.

The British Context: Current Regulatory Frameworks

The United Kingdom is currently developing its status as a global “digital sandbox,” defining the parameters for its creative and technological sectors within the framework of the Online Safety Act and ongoing consultations by the Intellectual Property Office (IPO) regarding AI and copyright.

At this stage, two distinct models of development are emerging in the professional and regulatory discourse.

The first model aligns with a “pro-innovation approach,” where the creative sector functions as a primary data source.

The second model involves the development of a strategic management mechanism aimed at ensuring long-term data integrity.

My earlier proposal on oral exams as a solution to AI cheating demonstrates how we can protect the value of human-verified expertise within these frameworks.

Such standards are increasingly viewed by regulators as a necessary condition for creating a predictable and secure environment for AI investment.

Summary:  Documenting the Transformation

We are not calling for radical measures; we are merely documenting a moment of profound transformation.

Institutions today face a fundamental challenge: either a system will be built where progress integrates and respects its source, or technological success will lead to the devaluation of the very expertise upon which it was built.

This analytical strategy is not an attempt to slam on the brakes, but an attempt to set the helm.

Many are waiting for a ready-made recipe for salvation, but such a recipe simply does not exist anywhere on the globe today.

We are merely observing how this choice shapes the future landscape of the digital market, where humanity’s greatest invention and humanity itself seek new points of contact.
